Been thinking a lot lately about what it means to experience the full range of human emotion. How we can feel joy, grief, confusion, nostalgia, loneliness, ect. over the course of a single day.
I made this Full Moon playlist before I (late to the party) watched this music video by St. Vincent, which I later added to the mix. How she captures what it feels like to grieve in a city that refuses to slow down, refuses to dull, and how isolating that can feel, even when surrounded by millions of others. You can cry, or panic, or feel alone in a crowded train, or corner, or coffee line, and still your aloneness can be true. A city that, though neon bright, feels so cold and unforgiving at times.
Music and film have such power to convey a complex range of emotions over the course of 3 minutes. I started making Full Moon playlists as a way for myself to reflect on the range of emotions I have experienced in the weeks building up to a full moon . To validate my feelings and experiences, but also acknowledge that I exist in a circle of feeling. I joyfully dance around my apartment often, and feel elated by the taste of a fresh peach. I am frustrated by the presence of cat hair on the floor. I am saddened by the way sunshine crawls through my blinds when the person I am missing is still not here. I am refreshed by a conversation with a colleague. We are more complex than we let on. We feel everything. We cycle.
I hope you will join me in reflecting and reimagining during this Full Moon in Pisces. Let me know what you think!
(P.S. be sure to check out the latest eps of Ask a Mermaid, where we have been answering a lot of listener questions about love, loss, and relationship problems, as well as this video!)
